Curtain comes down on Dixie season

E-mail Print PDF

jonathanbrandon3The 2012 area Dixie Baseball summer All-Star season came to a close Monday in Christiansburg, Va.

The Bossier All-Stars lost a tough one to Sebring, Fla., 9-7 in the morning and then fell to Hattiesburg, Miss., 6-2 in an afternoon elimination game in the Dixie 13s World Series.

Members of the 13s state championship team were Josh James,  Coleman Nerren, Peyton Jordan, Jake Mayfield, Hal Gatti, Peyton Donaldson, Ryan Lawhorne, Zach Hire, Thomas Bush, Connor Jack Smith, Jonathan Plant, Anthony Mulrenin and Ethan Parks. George Fauber was the manager. Duane Lawhorne and Keith Bush were the coaches.

While it wasn’t quite as successful as the 2011 season, the Bossier Dixie organization still enjoyed a good summer.

Three teams — the 11-12 O-Zone All-Stars, the 13s and the Pre-Majors all won state championships and played in their respective World Series.

The 9-10 Bossier Nationals and Americans finished 1-2 in the district tournament in Minden and played well in zonal tournaments before falling.

In 2011, Bossier Dixie teams won five state titles and one World Series championship.

The Haughton Dixie 11s All-Stars made history by becoming the first team in that organization to win a state tournament.

Benton Athletics made history, too, holding its inaugural season.

In softball, the area produced two district champs — the Bossier 11-12 All-Stars and the Haughton 7-8 All-Stars.
