Former Southwood head football coach Brian Taylor is among five new coaches on the Airline High staff, athletic director Ronnie Coker said.
Taylor was the head coach at Southwood from 2009-2011. He is also a former assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Byrd.
Taylor, who was a defensive back at ULM, is an assistant coach on second-year head football coach Bo Meeks’ staff. He will also be an assistant to head boys basketball coach Chris White.
The other four additions to Airline’s staff are Pat Mason, Danny Roberts, Frank Wade and Shawn Sonnier.
Meeks said Taylor’s head coaching experience and defensive backfield expertise are invaluable. But he quickly added that all the new assistant coaches bring something positive to the program and complement the other coaches on the staff.
“I’m extremely excited about our coaching staff,” Meeks said. “We just have a great group of men that, one, want to make our young men better, and two, just want to make Airline the best it can be.”
Mason is an assistant football coach and will also be an assistant to head baseball coach Toby Todd.
He is a former head baseball and assistant football coach at Bossier.
Roberts is an assistant football coach and will also be an assistant to head softball coach Tracey Rambin.
He is a former assistant football and head softball coach at Ruston and a current member of the executive board of the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association.
Wade is also an assistant football coach. He is a former Byrd assistant coach and athletic director at Caddo Magnet. Wade will also be the faculty advisor for boys soccer.
Sonnier will serve as an assistant baseball coach. A former pitching coach at Calvary Baptist, Sonnier played professional baseball from 1998-2006, including a stint in Japan.
